When paying by credit card, your sensitive credit card information is transmitted using an encrypted SSL protocol. Due to the encrypted data transmission, payment by credit card is very secure. In addition to SSL encryption, we use the 3D Secure methods "VISA Secure" or "Mastercard Identity Check" – depending on the card type – as additional security for payments. Your credit card must be activated for the respective method.
How does the 3D Secure process work? On September 14, 2019, an EU directive came into force that sets a new security standard for credit card payments to prevent the misuse of your credit card information. Essentially, the directive stipulates that you must verify your identity twice before making an online payment and additionally confirm your transaction with a password, TAN, or fingerprint, for example. The credit card providers VISA and Mastercard offer the so-called 3D Secure processes under the names "Visa Secure" and "Mastercard Identity Check," respectively.
What this means for you in concrete terms: Depending on the credit card type and if you haven't already done so, have your credit card activated for "Visa Secure" or "Mastercard Identity Check" by your bank. If you have any further questions, please contact your bank directly.
